#BirthofaDeathRacer in a nutshell
- Official 2020 Canadian Death Race Training Start Date: Nov. 4, 2019
- Race Date: Aug. 1, 2020
- Age on race date: 46
- 39 weeks until Death Race (if I can make twins in 39 weeks, I can learn to run for 24 hours)
- Previous two years working with my running coach (Lyns Romano at Skyline Endurance) to improve long distance hiking goals. I’ve never been coached before, I love it.
- Trail Running > Road Running (by sooooo much).
- Previous longest race … 10km.
- Previous longest day on feet hiking: 35km (22mi) hiking about 13 hours.
- Longest multi-day distance: 5 days hiking, 155km (97mi), 12 hour days.
- Monthly visits to my favourite massage therapist (Melissa Frantz) are a part of training.
- Monthly visits to my favourite chiropractor (Karyn Klut) are also a part of the plan.
- I have about 13 years of yoga practice and I believe yoga is very important in the role of a healthy athlete.
- I have about 14 years of meditation practice. I first learned it as a coping mechanism during recovery from a work-related injury. Meditation will play a huge role in my training.
- I won’t monitor weight … at least not in the beginning. And if or when I do … it will be in relation to my running only.
- I will always eat ice cream.
- Multiple days a week of strength training – I expect how many to change throughout training.
- Multiple days a week running – I expect how many to change throughout training.
- Rest days are important … full days, every week, with no running or weight training will be honoured.
- Fuelling with whole foods is important to me.
- I want to learn to train for the four weeks of my cycle.
